About Me

I am reading for a PhD in Statistical Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge. My supervisor is Prof. Zoubin Ghahramani.

I am a member of St John's College and I am based in the Computational and Biological Learning Laboratory in the Deparment of Engineering.

Research Interests

My general research interests are in Bayesian approaches to model design and development. In particular I am interested in:

1 April 2011 After a truly wonderful few years in Cambridge, I have now left to assume a post-doctoral research position as a CIFAR Junior Fellow at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
15 March 2011 'Approval for the PhD' letter received!
11 Feb 2011 Had my PhD Viva Voce exam with external examiner Chris Holmes, and internal examiner Carl Rasmussen.
11 Jan 2011 Submitted my PhD thesis for examination.
22 Nov 2010 I have accepted a Junior Fellowship from the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) and will be joining UBC's computer science department next year. Regrettably though, I have had to decline a postdoctoral fellowship at the department for statistical science at Duke university.
10 Dec 2010 Speaking on aspects of sparse Bayesian learning at the NIPS Workshop on Sparse Modelling.
Oct/Nov 2010 Research visits and talks at: Carnegie Mellon University (Auton Lab), Duke University (Dept. of Statistical Science), University of Toronto (Machine Learning Group), University of British Columbia (Machine Learning), University of Washington (CSE).

16-18 June 2010 I'm attending the research workshop on sparse structures in Bristol.
2-9 June 2010 I will be giving a talk on sparse Bayesian learning at Valencia/ISBA in Spain.
Dec 2009 I will be discussing our paper on parallel inference for the IBP at NIPS.
Nov 2009 I will be meeting with HM The Queen!
August 2009 I will be at EUSIPCO to discuss our paper on Bayesian Tensor Factorisations.
May 2009 I have been elected as President of the Samuel Butler Room Society.
Dec 2008 I will be discussing our paper on Exponential Family PCA at NIPS.
October 2007 I begin my PhD in Cambridge with a joint scholarship from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust (CCT) and the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Scheme (CSFP).
